Upper School Beyond the Classroom

Our Upper School students take great pleasure and pride in participating in and creating other opportunities to improve life on campus and the lives of others. Just as they develop as independent academic learners; they take on new causes outside of the classroom.
Leadership and Community Development
Student government and honor committee are active groups within the Upper School and members are elected positions. After formal school-wide presentations to the student body, an election is held. A relatively new leadership program is peer tutors – juniors and seniors volunteer their time to assist students experiencing academic difficulty. S.W.A.T. – Student Wellness Advising Team – comprised of juniors and seniors volunteer their time to help freshmen make the transition to our Upper School.
Clubs and Organizations
Our Dean of Students coordinates campus organizations and service opportunities. Listed here are some of the opportunities our students have.

  • Our Outreach Club has made an incredible mark on local school children and the elderly. Members tutor elementary students and make weekly visits to our local nursing home.
  • The recycling club’s focus includes recycling of paper, cans, bottles, and ink cartridges as well as developing new ways to improve our environment.
  • Our seniors act as big brothers and sisters to our kindergarten students by reading with them, playing games, and supporting their progression.
  • Our Yearbook staff is responsible for designing and writing the yearbook. Students volunteer in countless other ways such as in the library and admission office.
  • In the Future Business Leaders of America club students work to create business plans and learn business skills for competition.
  • Our Robotics Club works with a faculty member to build a robot which is entered into an annual competition.
  • The Gay-Straight Alliance organization promotes tolerance, sharing information about gay youth, and human rights issues.
Social Events

We offer three primary settings for our students to gather and ‘hang out.’ Dances are a chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company outside of the classroom. There are typically four informal dances each year and two formal: The Semi-Formal during the winter and the Junior/Senior prom in the spring. Coffeehouses present students with the chance to sing, read poetry, or play an instrument in a casual setting. On other Friday evenings, students enjoy Foreign Film Club where they watch and discuss films from different cultures.
