English, College Counseling, Tennis (*1995)
Moira McKinnon is a 1988 graduate of Berwick Academy. She is Director of College Counseling as well as a member of the English Department and a student advisor. Her Literature and Film elective allows her to combine and share her passion for great books and great films. In addition, Ms. McKinnon coaches junior varsity girls’ tennis. Helping new players develop a love of the game is one of the highlights of her spring.
Ms. McKinnon completed her B.A. at Georgetown University, while spending her junior year at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. After graduation she spent a year teaching at the Star of the Sea High School in KwaNgwanase, Natal, South Africa. The students at this rural Zulu school, who had grown up under Apartheid, taught her to appreciate the value of education and the incredible good fortune we experience every day at Berwick. Her experiences in England and South Africa also fed a love of travel that continues today. Returning from South Africa, Ms. McKinnon tried her hand at boarding school teaching for a year, but she happily returned to Berwick in 1995.
When Ms. McKinnon isn’t reading or watching films, she can be found playing her guitar or riding her bike. She also enjoys energetic political debates, Bruce Springsteen, and cheering for the Patriots, Red Sox, and whoever is playing the Yankees.
