Adelle Tibbetts just finished her sixth year at Berwick Academy. She teaches Advanced Writing, Advanced Oral Expression and AP Spanish in the Upper School. She is the Chair of the Language Department, a student advisor, the senior class advisor, and a Foreign Film Club advisor. Ms. Tibbetts runs the Spanish Summer Abroad program every June, where she travels with students on a service trip to Guatemala. She also coaches JV girls’ basketball, is a member of SACC and one of the Post-Prom Party organizers.

Ms. Tibbetts attended Syracuse University where she spent a semester abroad studying at the University of Zimbabwe and traveling throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. She graduated with a degree in Cultural/Political Anthropology and Magna Cum Laude honors. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala from 1997 – 2000 where she worked at a Spanish-speaking agricultural school teaching Entomology, Organic Agriculture, and Non-Traditional Crops. She also worked at a women’s cooperative with nearly three hundred Mayan women who were widowed or orphaned by the Guatemalan Civil War.

Ms. Tibbetts grew up in Windsor, ME on a 500-acre dairy farm that her father still operates with her Colombian stepmother. She loves international travel and has currently visited twenty-one countries. Ms. Tibbetts also enjoys camping, gardening and (of course) the Red Sox.
