Berwick Academy seeks students who will be successful contributors to its academic, athletic, and arts programs. Applications should reach the admission office as soon as possible. In order to be considered in our first round of decisions, applications must be completed by January 13 for grades PK-8 and February 1 for Grades 9-12. Applications completed after these dates will still be considered as space allows.
The application and admission process includes the following pieces, not necessarily in the order listed. Requirements vary slightly by division, please pay particular attention to the grade for which you are applying.
- Submit the application and application fee of $50.00 The application can be downloaded here or by calling the the Office of Admission to have one mailed to you. The application includes a Parent Application Form for all grades and a Student Application form for applicants to grades 6-12.
- Classroom Teacher Recommendation (one required for applicants to Pre-K - Grade 1, two required for grades 2-5)
- Graded essay/writing sample, with teacher comments (for applicants to grades 6-12)
- English & Mathematics Recommendations, and one Optional Teacher of Choice Recommendation (for applicants to grades 6-12)
- Official School Transcript Release/Guidance Form (for applicants to Pre-K -12)
- Applicants to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten must attend a group screening session
- Applicants to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be scheduled for an individual screening session
- Admissions Testing required for applicants to grades 5-12. Applicants to grades 6-12 must register to take the SSAT at www.ssat.org. You must register with SSAT for this test at least two weeks prior to the test date to ensure you will be admitted to the test. Test takers are not allowed to "walk in" to a test site without prior registration. Berwick Academy is a test site for the SSAT and it is offered monthly on campus. Applicants to grade 5 take an internal assessment exam and must contact the Office of Admission to register for a test date of either December 10 or February 4.
- Parents, of applicants to all grades, will be required to have a campus tour and an interview with the Office of Admission.
- Student applicants to grades 6-12 will be required to have a campus tour and an interview with the Office of Admission.
- All applicants to grades 1-8 will be required to spend a day in the classroom. Please call the Office of Admission to arrange for this visit once you have submitted an application.
All parts of the application should be mailed directly to the Office of Admission as they are completed. Our Admission Committee will review all of the above information to assess whether our academic, artistic, and athletic offerings are a strong match for each applicant before making a decision for admission. Accepted students for the Lower and Middle Schools are notified by February 10 and must respond by March 1. Accepted students for the Upper School are notified by March 10 and must respond by April 10. Admission to Berwick Academy is without regard to race, creed, color, handicap, financial need, or national or ethnic origin.
