Historic Campus Preservation at Berwick Academy

Berwick Academy is Maine's oldest school, and since the 1970's, our five historic buildings have qualified the campus as an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The buildings include the1791 House, perhaps the oldest white wood-frame schoolhouse in America; the Hayes House or headmaster's residence, dating to about 1810; the 1859 Oakes House; Burleigh-Davidson, built in 1893 by the family of South Berwick's 19th century congressman and textile entrepreneur, Capt. John Burleigh; and of course, the 1894 landmark, Fogg Memorial.

Campus preservation is ongoing at Berwick Academy.  Please read about some of the recent projects underway to preserve our historic buildings.
