The Lower School recognizes the individuality of experience, readiness, interest, and ability in its student population. We offer a child-centered environment where these qualities are enhanced and grow. Our curriculum is based in an academic tradition that challenges students to process information and apply skills as they develop the competencies that will aid growth toward academic self-reliance. The close connection between teachers and students allows individual support and aids in our goal of understanding the child as a learner. Social and ethical development is fostered through cooperative and collaborative learning experiences. We promote an attitude of mutual respect for individual rights and responsibilities and an awareness of and a respect for the needs of the community. Together, the student, school, and family establish the foundations of academic, intellectual, and personal autonomy.
