Dear journal,

I just came back from visiting Linus. He had a girl that is terribly sick. Pore thing. Sometimes, I think about why I’m a doctor. Then I remember I wanted to help people in need. I don’t think the conditions of the working quarters are good, but working is exercise and exercise is good. I’ve inspected a mill personally and there was so much lint and rubbish, if there was a strong gust of wind, most of the children might get sick or worse. Those girls are so kind. I can’t bear to see them part.

WHO AM I?

Barilla Taylor, mill worker

Dr. Bartlett, Doctor working for the mill

Mr. Lowell, owner of the mill
