Dear journal,

It is a chilly winter morning. I am at the Middlesex mills enjoying the warm and toasty smells of breakfast. Sara greets me happily, eager to see what we will have for breakfast. The day was quiet, and I enjoyed the delicious breakfast.

One day one of the older women at the mills said that the mill girls were slaves, but I did not think so. She recited a poem to me ,but I still did not understand what the woman was trying to say. Afterward she tried to convince me by having me sign a petition to help the girls. I did not sign, forI knewI would be blacklisted, so I left without acknowledgment to the girl. I thought about that night, but was too exhausted and fell asleep.

Who am I?

Mary Aiken, mill owner's wife

Elizabeth Freeman, free black

James Frances, engineer
