Dear Journal,

Today was busy! I worked 14 hours, which tired me out. After, I went to my reform meeting where we discussed a petition to send to the government asking them to change the working conditions in the mills. I hope that they will listen to us. I also worked on some articles for the Lowell Offering. I am working on stories about the low pay and horrible conditions. I enjoy writing for the magazine because I love writing about what I believe in. That’s a short description of my day. Now I will tell it again in more detail.

At breakfast, we had cider, gravy and bread. Then we walked to the mills.

At the mill, a girl got hurt! She got her finger stuck and she couldn’t reach the off lever. I ran over to her and turned the machine off. It was scary.

At the reform meeting, we discussed the petition. I will sign but I have to be careful not to get blacklisted. I hope that the conditions in the mill will change soon.

Who am I?

Linus Child, mill agent

Abigail Elston, wife of a shoemaker

Lucy Larcom, mill worker
