My name is Maria Currier. I was born in 1827. I was raised in Wentworth, New Hampshire. I had three sisters: Louisa, Lura, and Marcia. We all worked in the Lowell mills. I worked at the Treemont mill. We all went to the Second Universalist in downtown Lowell. I kept notes on the fist meeting of the "improvement circle" and that sort of started the Lowell Offering. My greatest fear was that I would get blacklisted. I was an abolitionist. I supported the 10-hour movement. I was content in living in Lowell. I liked following the working men’s group as they fight for the 10-hour workday. I liked to attend concerts and I would spend hours at the library reading. I had a friend named Sarah Bagley. She and I fought together for better working conditions and higher pay. I hoped that we helped women in the mills to have a nicer working life.
