Dear Journal,

Today I had another long hard day in the weaving room. I don’t like having to work 14 hours a day but am afraid to speak out against it because I think that I might be blacklisted. My overseer’s name is Augustus Lord and he is very nice. Once in a while he opens the windows to let us get some fresh air. Our other overseers don’t open the windows because they think the strings will snap. I don’t think we will have Mr. Lord for long because he is nice to the mill girls. I saw is boss looking at him and his face didn’t look to pleasant. Since I don’t go along with other girls and go on strike for better wages, I don’t have many friends at the mill. One of my only friends is Sarah Bagely.

WHO AM I?

Kirk Boott, Mill Owner

Susan Brown, Mill Worker

Mary Aiken, Housewife
