At Berwick,
the physical education and athletic experience is something students
take part in on a daily basis. Berwick Academy believes that athletics
is an integral part of the total educational experience. Competent
instructors and coaches, positive role models, and opportunities to
advance skills and explore new sports stimulate our K-12 athletic
program. With increased and new-found confidence and esteem, Berwick
students develop sound minds, bodies, and attitudes. |
Berwick
provides a multi-dimensional canvas for students to explore their
creative sensibilities through various visual and performing arts
programs. Whether choosing to sing with one of our many choruses, take
African drumming lessons, act in a drama production, or explore dance,
painting or photography, students find that opportunities abound for
artistic expression. Often, faculty at all levels integrate arts into
other areas of study, such as science, history, and English. It is
through arts that students discover the keys to self-confidence and
self-expression |
At Berwick
Academy, student health and wellness is a major priority. Child and
adolescent health and wellness issues are addressed by classroom
teachers, advisors, division directors, the school nurse and the school
counselor. The three basic components of health and wellness are
education, prevention and intervention. Education and prevention occur
both in and outside the classroom setting. They can be as informal as
"teachable moment" conversations with a teacher or advisor, to a
structured educational program during the academic day. |
Summer Programs at Berwick Academy offer a variety of fun and intriguing sports and enrichment programs for children entering Kindergarten through Grade 12 on the beautiful Berwick Academy campus in South Berwick, Maine. We are in easy driving distance from many New Hampshire and Maine towns, including Portsmouth, Dover, the Hamptons, York, Kittery, and Kennebunk.

The Teaching Institute promises an invigorating, comprehensive introduction
to the art of reflective teaching. The Institute is a yearlong collaborative venture between Berwick Academy
and the University
of New England, resulting
in a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in Teaching
Methodology. Additionally, interns will be eligible for
elementary certification in the State of Maine,
offering reciprocity in forty-two other states. Full-time classroom teaching
placements in Berwick's Lower
School (grades K-4) and
Middle School (grades 5-8) enhance and inform the required coursework.
Interns will be supported throughout their experience by a supervising
teacher, an on campus faculty advisor, program administrators, and a university
advisor. Interns will be immersed in the life of the school as they discover
the art of effective teaching through observation, workshops, coursework,
readings and professional development opportunities on and off campus. This
purposeful integration of coursework, classroom placements, and involvement in
the multiple dimensions of school life provides the optimal environment for
becoming successful and effective teachers. |
