Read Poems Written by BA Students
5/1/2009
Berwick Academy students have have the opportunity to recite their original poetry to public audiences several times this year. Middle and Upper School students have participated in two "Beat Night" events as well as the Barnes and Noble Book Fair this year. "Beat Night" is an event held at the Press Room in Portsmouth that allows writers to read their work to the accompaniment of live music. As part of the Jazzmouth Festival, “Young Writers Beat Night” was created to give young writers an opportunity to read their work accompanied by live music. The music was provided by the Larry Simon Ensemble and world famous musician and composer David Amram. Amram is the person who first started the music and poetry collaborations of the Beat era working with writers, such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlingetti, and others.
