Alumni Spotlight: Maggie Sutherland '10

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬?
Berwick is such a supportive community and really encourages individuality and following your dreams which I think really encouraged me to launch a business a few years ago. I would say that is probably my proudest accomplishment since leaving Berwick!

𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘉𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳?
Berwick prepared me in countless ways for my professional career and for many aspects of life! Not only do I feel I received an incredible education that makes me confident in my work, I also feel I received a beautiful, well-rounded experience through art, music, creativity, sports, teamwork, and building lasting relationships, among other things. Most importantly, Berwick ingrained in us the true power and importance of community which I think is essential in the work I do.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘉𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬?
There are too many fond memories to count! My mind immediately goes right to the Grade 9 Egg Drop Project, the Thoreau Project in eleventh grade, long afternoons in art class, and fall days on the soccer field, but I think it's the little moments that create the happiest memories for me. I think it's really special that Berwick is so small that anywhere you walk around campus, there is someone you know and can say a friendly "hello" to. Even years after I graduated, building connections in morning assemblies and advisor groups, playing on sports teams with people from every grade, and teachers knowing who you were even though you never had them in class, are just some of the things that make Berwick special to me.
