In order to ensure that more students of the Seacoast are able to experience a Berwick education, we offer the Mary Z. Schleyer Scholarship in addition to the $4M we give in Financial Aid. This need-based scholarship provides full tuition to two new students entering ninth grade each year. Each student grant will be renewed through graduation if the student maintains an outstanding academic, social, and extra-curricular record.

Applicants will be selected on the basis of extraordinary academic achievement, some amount of financial need, and distinctive talents in one or more of the following areas: arts, athletics, community service, or leadership. To apply for this scholarship, students must complete all application and financial aid materials by January 15.

Additionally, students must submit a 300-500 word essay describing why he/she is a strong candidate for this program and articulating how he/she will use his/her distinctive talents in arts, athletics, community service, or leadership here at Berwick Academy. Essays may be submitted electronially by emailing admissions@berwickacademy.org or by mailing a hard copy to 31 Academy Street, South Berwick, ME 03908 to the attention of the Office of Admission.

Students will be contacted only if they are selected as finalists. Selected finalists will meet with a faculty committee in February and recipients will be notified in March. Students who are not finalists will be considered for financial aid and notified about their financial aid award in March.

If you have any questions about applying for the Schleyer Scholarship, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Admission, or 207.384.6300. The entire Admission Team thanks you for considering Berwick and looks forward to assisting your family.

Serving Maine, The Seacoast of New Hampshire, and the North Shore of Massachusetts

Berwick Academy is Maine's oldest, independent Pre-K through Post Graduate private school. Our community is dynamic, offering challenging academics, competitive athletics, and creative arts programs. Members of the community operate within a context of caring and respect as we pursue our quest for "useful knowledge" as "one school with three divisions." Students and faculty are encouraged to expand their horizons by balancing academics with athletic, dramatic, and musical options.
