Poet-in-Residence Evening Event
Poet and author Willie Perdomo will be featured in Berwick Academy’s annual Mary Anker Poet-in-Residence series at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 in the Jackson Library HUB. This event is free and open to the public. Perdomo is the author of The Essential Hits of Shorty Bon Bon, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and Milton Kessler Poetry Award, winner of the International Latino Book Award, and a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award nominee. He is currently a member of the VONA/Voices faculty and an English Instructor at Phillips Exeter Academy.
Perdomo’s reading on Thursday evening will be the culmination of a week-long residency at Berwick Academy, where he and Middle School students engage in the process of making and performing poetry in daily workshops. Perdomo will also be sharing his work with the Lower & Upper School students. “Poetry has always provided an alternative language toward experience and imagination; it’s as close to dreaming in real time as we can get,” says Perdomo. “The goal of my visit to Berwick is to create an environment where students can inhabit their dream space.”
