Lunch and Learn: Early Elementary Outdoor Education

Are you interested in Berwick Academy’s outdoor and diverse academic education in our Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 programs?

Remember that feeling of accomplishment and the thrill of doing something courageous as a child? Perhaps it was climbing trees, rock scrambling, digging deep holes in the dirt, or building forts with logs and branches. Research indicates that children thrive on taking safe-risks in play, especially while in nature. A balance of engaging outdoor play and academic experiences empowers children to thrive.

Join us for ‘Lunch and Learn: Early Elementary Outdoor Education’ on Thursday, November 19, at noon.

This virtual program includes a presentation and Q&A with our Lead Pre-K teacher Nancy Loftus and Lower School Director, Joel Hawes, where you’ll learn about:
  • How adventurous activities help children gain confidence.
  • The connections between gross motor skills and hiking.
  • Collaboration and teamwork in outdoor play.
  • How to observe and document nature with children.
  • Our thoughtful balance of outdoor learning and academic experiences.

VIRTUAL EVENT BONUS:
Five attendees will be chosen in a raffle at the end of the program to receive a copy of Angela J. Hanscom’s book, “Balanced and Barefoot: How Unrestricted Outdoor Play Makes for Strong, Confident, and Capable Children
