Rules & Expectations for the Inspiration Commons

Dear Parent or Guardian: The Inspiration Commons Fabrication Studio provides students with an opportunity to use special tools and equipment in a creative environment. We feel that you should be informed of potential risk issues associated with Fabrication Studio activities and the school’s effort to create and maintain safety in spaces where students are given the freedom and tools to experiment and be creative with their hands. Every effort is made to 1) ensure low supervision ratios, 2) provide instruction and protective equipment that allows for safe use of all tools and materials, and 3) provide access to appropriate resources/personnel in the event of an emergency. Students will have access to equipment including, but not limited to the following: 3D printers, CNC router, Laser cutter, Vinyl cutter, Soldering irons, Hand tools (drill, hammer, saw, sander, etc.), Sewing machines, and Hot glue guns. While Inspiration Commons offers many educational benefits, there is also the risk of personal injury notwithstanding the implementation of reasonable safety protocols. As a condition of participation, parents and students must acknowledge and assume the risks attendant with the use of tools, materials and equipment in Inspiration Commons. No student will be permitted to participate in activities in hands-on spaces unless the Safety Contract and this Agreement is signed by both the student and parent/guardian.
