Berwick lays an egg against Pingree
A lackluster effort leads to a poor result
SOUTH HAMILTON, MA –The Bulldogs traveled to South Hamilton, MA tonight to face off against a familiar foe in the Pingree Highlanders. It was a back and forth game that saw the Bulldogs come from behind twice, but Pingree earned their first win of the season with two late third period goals.
Berwick got off to a slow start and spotted Pingree an early 1-0 lead two minutes into the first period. Three minutes later, Greg Stohrer (Barrington, NH) buried his first of the game on a slick behind the net feed from Tyler Gaulin (Kingston, NH). Jack Merecki (Stratham, NH) also earned an assist on the play. Pingree responded only minutes later to make it 2-1, which is how things would stand until the third period.
Berwick came out flying in the third and once again, Gaulin found Stohrer on the power play to tie the score at 2-2. After more than half a period of sustained pressure on the Pingree goalie, the Highlanders turned the tides and found the back the back of the net 2 on 1 to take their third lead of the game. Berwick couldn’t respond this time as Pingree cashed in only a minute later, stretching their lead to 4-2, which is how this one would end.
The Bulldogs wrap up their four game road trip with a visit to Tilton School on Friday night before returning home on Saturday to face the Ravens of Portsmouth Abbey.
