Berwick puts in a solid 54 minutes in 2-2 tie with Vermont
Ryan Gaulin’s return sparks Berwick
WEST ROXBURY, MA –In his first game back from injury, Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) beat a Vermont defender 1 on 1 in overtime and walked in all alone. Dylan Regan, however, was not in the mood to provide any charity as he turned aside Gaulin’s bid with a pad save. Gaulin’s return certainly sparked the Bulldogs and provided them with a level of depth they missed for the first nine games. Zander Lizotte’s (Scarborough, ME) return was just as important.
With three full lines in action, it was Chris Dowd (Danville, NH) who took a Jack Merecki (Stratham, NH) breakout pass and torched the Vermont defender wide before beating Regan through the five hole. Vermont converted on the man advantage just one minute into the second, but Tanner Derby (Newburyport, MA) answered the call while playing 4 on 4 on a pass from Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA).
Both teams had their chances in overtime. While Regan made a big save on Gaulin, it was Rafe Gaughan (Somersworth, NH) who made the save of the game. Vermont beat Gaughan to the back door but the senior net minder played a game of “look what I found” as he reached his glove back across the open net. The save was almost enough to swing the momentum completely to the Bulldogs, but Regan was up to the task when challenged in the overtime. These teams play again in eight days up in Vermont.
