South Berwick, Maine – Berwick Academy alum Tyler Gaulin ‘20, a native of Kingston, N.H., signed his letter of intent last week to play hockey at the University of Maine, a member of the prestigious Hockey East Association, entering as a freshman in 2022-2023.

Gaulin was a four year member of the varsity hockey team at Berwick Academy. He appeared in 120 games donning the Bulldogs sweater and tallied 48 goals and 83 assists for 131 points, making him the leading scorer in program history. As a tenth grader, he was named team MVP after scoring 14 goals, adding 22 assists for 36 points, and setting career-highs in all categories as a senior captain, potting 21 goals, and adding 27 helpers for 48 points.

“Tyler is without a doubt one of the top players to come out of our program,” says Boys Varsity Hockey Head Coach Lem Randall. “He has an unmatched work ethic in practice and a relentless determination in games. What is more impressive and what we are most grateful for is his leadership in transforming the culture of our program for the better.”

After graduating last spring, Gualin signed with the Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League. He appeared in two games at the end of the Nordiques 2019-2020 season and scored two goals. In just seven games this season, Gaulin has tallied four goals and six assists for 10 points.

Gaulin becomes the 13th Berwick Bulldogs hockey player to sign a letter of intent to a Division I school. Most recently, other former players who signed letters of intent to continue their careers at the highest level of collegiate hockey include Jack Williams ‘20 (Northeastern), Matt Kenneally ‘16 (Sacred Heart), and Joe Lazzaro ‘15 (UNH).
