Berwick beats Landmark

The Berwick Academy Boys Varsity Soccer team traveled to Landmark on Wednesday and handed the hosts a 4-0 defeat.  Only two minutes into the contest, Prem Osborne stole the ball inside the Landmark penalty area, and nailed a shot that went from inside the left post to the inside right post and finally to the back of the net to open the scoring on the day.  Ten minutes later, Osborne scored his second off a nice assist from Julian Vanderpool.  Vanderpool almost assisted another when captain Tyler Hall took his pass and hit a 16 yard drive on net.  Hall did get one on the next play when Osborne hit a nifty bicycle pass over his head that Hall volleyed one time past a helpless keeper.  On the final play of the opening frame, striker Neal Mendez nearly scored on the near post, but the Landmark goalie made a nice save to keep it close.

Berwick kept up the pressure during the entire 2nd half, generating several good chance.  Jonah Friedman set Osborne up for a try on net in the opening minute, but the keeper made another nice save.  Osborne returned the favor two minutes later, feeding Friedman for another try that was saved.  Defender Hayden McGovern got into the action on a corner kick from Hall, nearly converting to the far corner.  In the 65th minute, Peter Wojdak took a 25 yard drive off his left peg that the goalie just tipped over.  Wojdak then set Mendez in on net, who passed back to Hall, who in turn launched a drive well over.  In the 68th minute, Harry Nigrin broke through with a 25 yard drive that skipped under the goalie .  Albert Allen took a pass from Hall and launched it to the near post, sailing into the upper right to round out the scoring on the day.

Berwick is 3-0-1 on the season plays LCA in South Berwick on Wednesday.
