Another 2-0 Win for the Bulldogs

The Bulldogs came away with their second EIL win on the road in three days at Lexington Christian Academy to improve to 5-0-1 while Lexington falls to 2-2-1.

The Bulldogs struggled to get a rhythm early in the game and LCA was very dangerous on the counter attack.  Fortunately in the 33rd minute the Bulldogs were able to break the deadlock when Ginger Friedman (North Hampton, NH) broke through the LCA defense on a breakaway colliding with the LCA keeper at the top of the 18, but was able to slip the ball to Grace Libby (Standish, ME) who tucked it into the net for the 1-0 lead the Bulldogs carried into halftime.

The Bulldogs changed their shape to try and stifle the LCA counter attack in the second half, and tried to use the width to create more chances. The first quality chance to increase the lead came in the 52nd minute when Sophia Whitney (Hampton, NH) crossed the ball to Phoebe Clark (Hampton, NH) whose full volley went just over the bar.  In the 76th minute the Bulldogs had an amazing build up when Sophia Whitney (Hampton, NH) played a great ball up the left flank to Grace Libby (Standish, ME) who held the ball up turned and slipped it to Phoebe Clark (Hampton, NH) who played a great pass to Reese Murphy (Stratham, NH) on the right side of the box who set up Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) for an amazing full volley that went just over the bar.  It seemed like the Bulldogs were going to need to grind out the 1-0 win, but just 1 minute later, Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) played the ball to Grace Libby (Standish, ME) who had a buttery lay off with the outside of the foot that Reese Murphy (Stratham, NH) roofed for the 2-0 advantage a d a well deserved goal.

The Berwick midfield and defense deserves a lot of credit for stifling LCA’s dangerous counters throughout the game including a fury in the box during the second half and earned their 6th shutout of the season.  Lily Balfour (Exeter, NH) was solid at center back and holding mid. Charlotte Vatcher (Kennebunk, ME) ran cleanup with many key tackles and clearances.  Lindsay Bennett (Sanford, ME), Jessica Wojdak (West Newbury, MA), and Eliza Small (Portsmouth NH) were solid m the backfield.  Phoebe Clark (Hampton, NH) was all over the field on both sides of the ball sacrificing her body to make big plays. Bella Mazza (Madbury, NH) continued her solid midfield play with great decisions winning the ball and playing quick.

The Bulldogs will play their third EIL matchup of the week when they host Beaver Country Day on Blue and White Weekend 10/2 at 12:45pm.  Go Bulldogs!
