Berwick off to a Fine Start
With all the goals being scored in just an 8 minute span, Berwick got their 2014-15 season off to a fine start. Playing host to their Maine foes from North Yarmouth, Berwick controlled much of the early going. It was 11 minutes into the first period, however, when local boy, captain Liam Darcy opened the scoring with the assist going to fellow senior Conor Ronan. Just four minutes later, defenseman Anthony Consentino (2016) buried one of his own with the assist going to newcomer Jake Gross from Scarborough, ME. The first intermission came and went with Berwick feeling comfortable with their efforts, though knowing they had even more to offer. With only 22 seconds gone in the middle frame, Connor Tully (York, ME) notched his first of the year, with linemates Ronan and Chris Michaud gathering the pair of assists. And just 30 seconds later, it was senior Garrett McDonald picking up his first of the year on an unassisted goal. With over half the game remaining, it looked like BA would continue to build on their lead, but a series of untimely penalties disrupted things and put the hosts on their heels for much of the second period. Thanks to some superb goaltending by fellow captain Joey Lazzaro, who steered away 17 shots in the period, Berwick carried their 4-0 advantage to the dressing room. With a bit of refocusing delivered by new coach, Andy May, the Bulldogs returned to the ice with a new sense of determination and purpose. Carrying much of the play in the final period, Berwick ran up against a committed NYA team and a responsive goalie, and while unable to build on their lead, they regathered the team effort that marked the opening period. This Saturday will see Berwick heading south to Providence, RI to take on Moses Brown before heading into Thanksgiving break.
