Fifth Grade

List of 4 items.

  • Humanities

The overarching theme to the Humanities Curriculum in fifth grade is “Let’s Embark on a Journey of Discovery!” Interconnected themes in the English and History curriculums weave together throughout the year. Students are encouraged to ask questions, be curious, and wonder. Overall, the goal is to cultivate lifelong, curious learners who can think, reason, analyze, communicate, and collaborate.
  • Math

The fifth grade mathematics program first focuses on the review and mastery of basic math skills and then explores the role of mathematics in our daily lives, the use of problem solving strategies, and the realms of abstract thinking.
  • Science

In fifth grade science, students investigate environmental science, weather, forces and motion, and chemistry; with particular emphasis on lower-middle school transition, stewardship, collaboration, and the continued development of a student’s ability to learn from feedback.
  • World Languages and Cultures

Fifth graders choose a full-year course in Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish, which they will study throughout their four years in Middle School. Students investigate various cultural topics connected to their chosen language.
