World Languages and Cultures

Fifth graders choose a full-year course in Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish, which they will study throughout their four years in Middle School. Students investigate various cultural topics connected to their chosen language.
While an exploratory year in nature, the Grade 5 curriculum creates a solid foundation for future language acquisition in the chosen language. Most students begin their fifth grade year at the Novice Low level in all four skill areas. Anticipated progress is for a student to begin to perform at the Novice Mid sublevel by the end of the academic year.
