Under the blazing September sun, the Bulldogs played the Covenant Christian Academy Cougars and beat them 6-1. The Bulldogs are now 2-0-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs came out of the gates strong and wasting no time, when Carly Shumway ‘29 (Wells, ME) carried the ball up the center of the field to the right side, where she passed it in across the goal and Senior Co-Captain Tatum Sloper ‘27 (Scarborough, ME) knocked it into the net, securing the first goal in the 7th min.
Only two minutes later, Griffin Demers ‘28 (Rochester, NH) skilfully passed the ball on a free kick to Emma Rich ‘27 (Dover, NH) who knocked it to Shumway who secured the second goal of the game.
While the Cougars did not have many chances against the Bulldogs, they did have one soon after the Bulldog’s second goal, when they made a shot, but Goalkeeper Julia Brennan ‘28 (Exeter, NH) dove gracefully to save it, stopping the ball on a front smother.
At the 22nd minute mark, Sophia DeSimone ‘28 (Dover, NH) carried the ball up the field, dribbling past several opponents, and giving the ball to Rylee White ‘29 (Fremont, NH) who shot and scored with her left foot.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on and the energy high throughout the second half, starting off with a great save by Goalkeeper Charlotte Loughlin ‘30 (Wells, ME) when she caught a ball that was shot hard from close to the net.
In the 61st minute of the match, Campbell McKee ‘28 (Brentwood, NH) set up the fourth goal with a skillful pass to Shumway who shot and scored.
Then, 10 minutes later, Co-Captain Emma Rich ‘27 (Dover, NH) carried the ball up the left side of the field to DeSimone who shot and scored again.
One minute later, a beautiful passing sequence unfolded, from Rich to Sloper to DeSimone who
passed a long through ball to Rylee White who ran onto it and shot into the top corner of the net,
scoring the game’s 6th and final goal.
The Bulldogs will play their home opener against the Wheeler School Warriors at the end of the week. Go Bulldogs!
