Trailing 3-1 in the third, the boys hung tough and earned a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Worcester.
MARLBOROUGH, MA -While the Bulldogs didn't have their A-game today, they fought back hard in the third to emerge on top in this Holt Conference matchup. Worcester took the lead early on a short-handed goal but the Bulldogs got one back two minutes later on a finish by Richie Rosato (Concord, NH). Assists went to Tyler Gaulin (Kingston, NH) and Pete Marshall (Wolfeboro, NH) on the play.
It was a quiet second period with both teams trading scoring chances but nothing to show for it. Early in the third, a Berwick player was forechecking aggressively and earned a five-minute major penalty for boarding. Worcester scored twice on the ensuing powerplay and the Bulldogs had to play from behind once again.
Berwick took advantage of powerplays just four minutes apart with Tanner Derby (Newburyport, MA) putting home a shot from a tough angle off a Jack Merecki (Stratham, NH) feed. Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) then took a Jack Williams (Biddeford, ME) pass and put it home to knot things at three. With two minutes remaining the Bulldogs won a defensive zone draw and Derby sent a pass up the wing to Derek Muse (Kennebunk, ME) who deflected the puck right onto the stick of Williams who raced in on a breakaway and beat the Worcester goalie low on the glove side off the post and in. The goal seemed to bring out a collective sigh of relief for the boys who came off a similar game against Hebron the night before. Berwick looks to continue its torrid pace in conference (7-1-0, 45 GF/19 GA) when they travel to Portsmouth Abbey for a make-up date on Monday night.
