Berwick blanks Bancroft

The Berwick Academy Boys Varsity Soccer team took on Bancroft on Friday, September 17, and came away with a decisive 6-0 victory.  The game was never much in doubt as the opening kickoff led to an immediate corner kick for Berwick, and then another before the game was even two minutes old.  A minute later, Prem Osborne fed Ollie Van Campen a perfect lead pass which the left-footed striker converted into the far right corner of the net to open the scoring on the day.  In the 8th minute, Julian Vanderpool tipped a through ball to captain Tyler Hall who touched it past the defender and finished it into the far right corner to double the lead.  In the 16th minute, Hall and Peter Wojdak executed a perfect one touch give and go, which Hall tipped passed the onrushing goalie for his second score of the day.  In the waning moments of the first half, Albert Allen took a long ball down the flank, and threaded it over to an overlapping Nick Sergeev, who slammed it home for his first Varsity goal and a 4-0 lead heading in to the half.

It was more of the same in the second half as Berwick continued to dominate.  Moments after the kickoff, Berwick earned a set piece that Alex Penfold drove to the six yard line, where Julian Vanderpool headed it on net.  The Bancroft goalie made the initial save, but Wojdak was right there with a header of his own to make it 5-0.  In the 50th minute, Van Campen went in alone on the goalie, and cut one across to Wojdak who netted his second goal in 10 minutes with his left foot.  Berwick continued to carry the play and hit two posts before the final whistle of the afternoon.

Berwick is 2-0-0 on the season and travel to Pingree tomorrow to face their rival.
