A very solid Kents Hill team came to Berwick's field five and asserted themselves Wednesday afternoon, taking a 4 -1 win back north with them after the game. The Berwick boys battled hard, though, generating some strong scoring chances in the first half.
In the second half, an unusual deployment of personnel led to starting goalie Noah Kassels getting fouled inside the opponents' penalty area. With years worth of experience in the goal mouth, Kassels knew exactly where the Husky keeper would be most vulnerable, and calmly tapped his offering into the bottom left corner of the net to get the Bulldogs on the board. Meanwhile, Kassels's erstwhile replacement in the Berwick crease, young Jack Lorden, was galloping all over the defensive end of the pitch and coming up with a few solid saves of his own.
In the closing minutes of play, with an offensive corner kick in the offing, Berwick pulled their tendy to add an extra attacker inside the offensive eighteen box. The Huskies won possession and countered quickly, sending a long ball up field. A Kents Hill striker redirected the ball towards the Berwick goal, and his teammate raced ahead to tap it in for an apparent empty netter to seal the win as the horn sounded full time. The alert official immediately ruled the Husky player was in an offsides position and waved off the tally.
