Nurturing Curiosity: A Look Inside Berwick’s Early Childhood Education Philosophy

The foundational years of education set the trajectory for a child’s lifelong relationship with learning. At Berwick Academy, the Early Childhood Education program continues to innovate by blending structured literacy and numeracy with child-led, inquiry-based exploration.
We are excited to announce that starting in the 2026-27 school year, The Early Childhood Education program will be led by Meg Kenter, who will enter her 11th year teaching in the Lower School at Berwick Academy. While her primary classroom duties will be in Pre-Kindergarten, Ms. Kenter will oversee the continuity and curriculum in our Pre-K through Grade 1 classrooms. Under her leadership, these important grade levels will build a foundation for our youngest learners that will support them throughout their time in the Lower School and far beyond in their educational journey.

Classrooms will continue to focus on utilizing our expansive campus for outdoor classrooms, cultivating a deep connection to nature and collaborative problem-solving from a young age. By prioritizing social-emotional learning (SEL) and creative play, Berwick’s early childhood educators are ensuring that our students develop the cognitive and social resilience required to thrive as they grow across all three divisions.
