Berwick Wins Battle of the Bulldogs - Schaepe with Hat Trick

Berwick Academy came out strong today in their first EIL league game.  They opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Julia Schaepe (Newburyport, MA) blasted a shot into the net off a pass from Brooke Downey (Eliot, ME).  In the 22nd minute Kelly Burke (North Hampton, NH) collected the ball at the top of the 18 after Caroline Hernon's (Hampton, NH) shot hit the crossbar and beat her defender and scored.  Just a minute later Caroline Hernon found Kat Reid (Dover, NH) whose shot was about to be saved by the keeper and Julia Schaepe put it in for her second goal.  In the 30th minute Julia Schaepe struck again off a pass from Maddie Balas (Rye, NH) bringing the lead to 4-0 going into the second half, finishing the day with the hat trick.

In the 47th minute Bancroft earned a free kick just outside the area and hit a nice shot to make it 4-1.  In the 59th minute Brooke Downey played the ball to Siobhan McDermott (North Andover, MA) who played an amazing through ball to Emma Brin (West Newbury, MA) In the 65th minute Laura Hoy (York, ME) broke through the defense and got her first career goal for the varsity team.

The Bulldogs held a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corners.  Sam Montagano had 4 saves in net for Berwick, who will host Winsor Saturday 9/20 at 1pm in their second league match of the season.
