A Look Inside: Kristen Jones

Kristen Jones is a current senior at Berwick Academy.  As a captain of the Varsity field hockey team, recorded guitarist and songwriter, co-founder of the Astronomy Club, motivated student, and recent admit of Brown University, she embodies the type of balance we seek to promote here at Berwick.  Kristen states, “Berwick has really allowed me to look into subjects that interest me fully, even if I’m not able to take classes on them”. While Berwick offers a class on Astronomy, Kristen and her fellow classmate, Will Duffy, put together an Astronomy Club in order to provide their peers with an opportunity to extend their knowledge on the subject.  They have organized trips to the UNH Astronomy Festival, put together stargazing sessions, and created a newsletter with updates on space technology and travel.  Both Kristen and Will recognize that students don’t always have time to meet after school, so they made the club “meeting free” in order for students to be able to join. The club currently has 91 members in its first year.
Kristen is also participating in an Innovation Pursuit along side her classmate Parker Johnson.  They are both members of a band, Dibs on the Drummer.  For the project, they are working on writing, recording, and performing original songs.  So far, they’ve performed at different coffeehouses and open mics, performing both covers and original songs.  They plan on contacting local musicians and producers to find out more about the process of being a recording artist.
