Ellen Waterston
Ellen Waterston, prize-winning poet and author, is Berwick Academy's seventh Poet in Residence. She lives heartily within the powerful draw of place. Escorted by her poetry, travel to her beginnings in New England, to her cattle ranch in Oregon's High Desert, and along the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Her wit and wisdom make the pilgrimage joyful.
Ellen converted her third collection, the verse novel Vía Láctea: A Woman of a Certain Age Walks the Camino, to a libretto which premiered as a full-length opera in 2016 and is slated for a second staging this year.
Founded by Waterston in 2000, the Writing Ranch offers workshops and retreats. The Waterston Desert Writing Prize is awarded annually each June to nonfiction projects concerning deserts anywhere in the world.
