Fall Trimester

Fall on the Hilltop Programs Registration Information

Extend your child(ren)’s school day with an array of after school programs, as well as Saturday programs throughout the Seacoast as part of Fall on the Hilltop!

Berwick Academy is excited to launch our fall auxiliary program registration on Monday, June 6 at 9 a.m.! After school programs are exclusively open to Berwick Academy families, but Saturday programs are open to all! Grab your spots to a wide array of programming for Lower and Middle School students. 

Families will be asked to create an account on CampBrain or log into their current account. Payments in CampBrain can only be completed with a credit card. If you would prefer to pay by cash or check, or to inquire about payment plans or financial assistance, please reach out to Margot Harrington, Director of Auxiliary Programs, at margot.harrington@berwickacademy.org for more information.

  • Clay Coil Bowls | Wednesday | Sept. 28 | Grades 3-5

    In this workshop we will construct a handbuilt ceramic bowl with coils of clay and clay construction techniques. Finished pieces will be completed approximately a week after the session.
  • Ceramic Textured Mugs | Tuesday | Nov. 8 | Grades 6-8

    Join educators from the Center for Wildlife to meet some of Maine's birds of prey and learn about their autumn adventures! During this two-week program, live birds, crafts, and games will be used to teach students about the fall raptor migration.
  • Fun on the Farm | Tuesdays | Sept. 27-Nov. 1 | Grades 1-3

    Come spend Tuesday afternoons at Sturgeon Creek Farm with farmers Leslie and Carly. We will learn about caring for the livestock on the farm, including chickens, turkeys, and sheep. We’ll talk about what the animals eat, where they live and how they get ready for winter as well as what role they play on the farm. We will visit the gardens and orchard, harvest what is still growing, and learn about the life cycle of plants. We will plant seeds and grow our own mini gardens that will be harvested by the end of the session. Using our apple cider press, the students crush and press apples to make their own apple cider. Lastly, we will learn about the wild animals that visit the farm including turkeys, deer, foxes, coyotes, and raptors, and dissect some owl pellets to learn what owls eat. There will be opportunities to spend time with the farm animals, explore in the gardens and orchard, and visit the pond for some frog viewing. Come dressed for all weather. We will be outside each session even if its wet. This program will be using a Berwick Academy vehicle to get to and from the farm.

  • Intro to Surfing | Thursdays | Sept. 8-29 | Grades 5-8

    Your instructors will guide you though the fundamentals of surfing, including paddling, how to stand, riding, ocean safety and wave selection. A big part of surfing is understanding how the ocean works so we will go over that as well. Surfing takes time so you will learn each day and build off of that to help become a solid all around surfer with the idea that after a few sessions of surfing with Liquid Dreams, you will feel comfortable riding waves on your own. Come and join in on the fun! Students should bring a swimsuit, towel, snack and water. Liquid Dreams will provide the wetsuits and surfboards! This program will use a Berwick Academy vehicle to get to and from the beach. Please also note the late return as the late bus will not be available.
  • Learn to Skateboard | Tuesdays | Sept. 13 & 20 | Grades 2-4

    For beginners and those who just need to dust off the rust, we will be holding a few skateboard lessons! Bring your boards for some after school excitement! Required gear: A skateboard and helmet. Optional gear: Knee, Elbow, Wrist protection.

    Come join us Saturday mornings at Red Alert for group lessons and open skating this Fall! Proper safety equipment will be needed for all skaters under the age of 18.     Want to just "hang around" after school at the indoor rock gym? Join us for six weeks of bouldering and top roping at Indoor Ascent in Dover! Berwick employees will partner with Indoor Ascent staff to provide guidance and safety while students build climbing skills and strength. Everyone will have a blast! Equipment and transportation to and from the rock gym is included in the cost. Spaces are limited so sign up fast!

    Who’s ready to build? In FIRST LEGO League Challenge team members will focus on multiple areas of competition. They will design, build, and program a LEGO robot to solve missions, come up with an innovative solution to a real world problem, and hone their teamwork/communication skills. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) LEGO League is an amazing program built to develop real world team-building and engineering based problem-solving skills. Working together, teams will be designing, programming, testing, and refining a custom LEGO robot in a way that directly reflects the iterative engineering process of professional robotics/computing engineers. With over 11 years of experience in FIRST robotics competitions, we can attest to the positive impacts of the program, many of the students that we have coached have now gone on to work and study things like engineering, robotics, and computer science. They are solving actual real-world global problems even as you read this! This season, FIRST teams will address today’s global challenges related to energy. How is it made, how is it stored, and how do we use it. By encouraging FIRST participants to think about the future of energy, we’re also empowering them to be the next generation of leaders and innovators, tackling the world’s toughest challenges.

    Who’s ready to code? In our FIRST LEGO League Robotics Training Camp members will work together to learn the skills they will need to be ready to compete with custom LEGO based robots. They will design, build, and program a LEGO robot to solve missions and hone their teamwork/communication skills. Then with robots ready they will challenge themselves to increase their high scores while developing coding best practices and learning about career connections. Our five week intensive course includes all of the resources necessary to develop the skill sets for success, as well as the guidance and knowledge that can only come from decades of combined experience in robotics, computer science, and electronics engineering with focus on educating others.

    Ever heard someone play the electric rubber band? Are you a fan of strange musical instruments and want to didgeridoo-it-yourself? There is a diverse world of creative musical expression waiting in the recycling bin! No previous music or engineering skills are required. You will learn the basics of musical instrument design, a little bit of acoustic science, and create some instruments to take home with you.
