Fund Descriptions and Award Criteria

Alexander-Blackwell Scholarship Fund
The Alexander-Blackwell Scholarship Fund was established in 2024 with a gift from the estate of Dennis Fink ’44 and Mary Alexander to provide scholarship support to a student who qualifies for Financial Aid. Preference will be given to students who reside in the towns of Rollinsford, New Hampshire and South Berwick, Maine. The student will be known as the Alexander-Blackwell Scholar and the award will follow the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid.
 
James Bartow Dean ‘88 Memorial Scholarship Fund
The James Bartow Dean '88 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 in the memory of James Bartow Dean '88 by his parents, James and Dianne Dean, to provide scholarship support to a student who qualifies for Financial Aid. The student will be known as the Dean Scholar and the award will follow the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid. 
 
Barbara Hilton Converse Memorial Scholarship Fund 
The Barbara Hilton Converse Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Barbara’s daughter, Anne Converse Willkomm ’83, to help single parents send their children to Berwick. Funds are available to students in grades eight through twelve who qualify for Financial Aid. The student will be known as the Hilton Converse Scholar and the award will follow the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid. 

Arnold Katz Fund
The Arnold Katz Fund was established in 1987 with a gift from Arnold Katz to provide scholarship support to a student who qualifies for Financial Aid. The student will be known as the Katz Scholar and the award will follow the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid.

Jonathan F. Kellogg ‘65 Memorial Fund
The Jonathan F. Kellogg ’65 Memorial Fund was established in 2016 by Jonathan’s classmate Rob Perkin ’65, to provide scholarship support to Berwick Academy students who qualify for Financial Aid.

Dr. Albert L. Kerr Scholarship Fund
The Dr. Albert L. Kerr Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in 2005 and will be available to help provide a Berwick education to worthy Upper School students with financial need who are descendants of Academy graduates. The student receiving the award is known as the Kerr Scholar. The award follows the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid. 
 
Lawrence A. Martineau ‘64 and Karen L. Martineau Fund
The Lawrence A. Martineau '64 and Karen L. Martineau Fund was established in 2015 to provide scholarship support to a student who qualifies for Financial Aid. The student will be known as the Martineau Scholar and the award will follow the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid. 

Bill and Kathryn Matthews Memorial Fund
The Bill and Kathryn Matthews Memorial Fund will provide Financial Aid students who qualify for financial assistance and are residents of Whittier Falls in Dover, NH, a housing residence administered by the Dover Housing Authority, Dover, NH. 

Mary Byrd Platt Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Mary Byrd Platt Endowed Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship support to a student who qualifies for Financial Aid and has a passion for the performing arts.  

Mary Z. Schleyer Scholarship Program
Recognizing the importance of access and equity and the impact of a Berwick education, the Schleyer family created the Mary Z. Schleyer Scholarship Program in 2009. Support from this fund provides full tuition to two students entering ninth grade and follows the students through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing.The awardees are known as Schleyer Scholars and are leaders across the Hilltop. 
 
Roger R. Thompson Endowment Fund
Since 2000, The Roger R. Thompson Endowment Fund has provided funding to support Financial Aidfor local Berwick Academy students who have a demonstrated financial need. Students are chosen based on their ability and motivation to contribute to and benefit from the Berwick community. The award follows the students through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid. 
 
Ajay Vasudevan ‘00 Scholarship Fund
The Ajay Vasudevan ’00 Scholarship Fund provides Financial Aid  support to a rising tenth grader who, like Ajay, displays altruism, grace, courage, and dignity. The award follows the student through graduation as long as they remain in good academic standing and qualify for Financial Aid.
 
Patricia Baldwin Whipple Scholarship in the Arts
The Baldwin Foundation established the Patricia Baldwin Whipple Scholarship in the Arts in 2014. This endowment supports an Upper School student, known as the Whipple Scholar, who demonstrates financial need and exhibits a passion in one of the arts. The award follows the student through graduation provided they remain in good academic standing and continue their artistic pursuits.

Berwick Academy

Berwick Academy, situated on an 80-acre campus just over one hour north of Boston, serves 520 students, Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 and Postgraduates.
