Amy Trueworthy, Upper School Spanish
When did you join the BA community? Why did you choose BA?
I joined the BA community in 2010. I arrived at BA by chance or possibly by fate depending on what one believes. One day on my way back from the beach I passed the road sign that directs you to Berwick Academy and I realized I had not checked job openings for the school. So that is exactly what I did when I arrived home and ended up with an interview in just a matter of a few days.
How would you describe BA students?
BA students are so full of talent and varying interests that it truly amazes me on a daily basis. In addition to their tremendous talents they exhibit a genuine compassion for one another that possibly exists in other schools, but is nowhere near as apparent and wide spread as it is within the Berwick community.
What is one thing a BA student has taught you?
The Berwick students inspired me almost immediately. Risk taking is encouraged at BA and as I quickly noticed that many students practice this idea, I decided to chaperone the junior rafting trip during my first year. I was very scared, but having seen such a young community take on so many challenges over the school year I felt I owed it to both them and myself to do the same. Individuals teach me things every day, but the student body as a whole really amazes and inspires me.
What is your favorite thing about BA?
My favorite thing about BA is walking around the campus and in the buildings and always being greeted with smiles. It is so nice to see people communicating in passing.
What is one thing you think prospective families should know when considering BA?
Families should know that BA has a gifted faculty. Like our students the faculty has a variety of talents and interest that extend in many directions and what students can learn in the classroom and on the fields/gym goes way beyond surface level of the class, sport, or club.
One fun fact about you:
I love long distance running!
