Bulldogs Put their First Step Forward

Berwick hosted Hebron on a muggy Saturday afternoon for their annual season opener with the Lumberjacks. Looking to avenge a 0-0 game last year, the Bulldogs came out flying. With just three minutes off the clock, Lucas Milne played Nii Lokko through on the left side who neatly slotted a cross to Liam Quinn who banged it home. A bit later, Berwick benefited from a fortunate bounce as Leo Beresin blocked a Hebron clearance, which then ricocheted 18 yards into the top corner of the visitor's net. Quirky goals seemed to becoming a pattern when a seemingly straightforward back pass turned into an errant adventure as Hebron tapped it into an empty net. Halftime proved to be a welcomed break for both teams given the heat and physicality of the opening 45 minutes. The second half witnessed a rejuvenated home team seize control of the game, winning multiple free kicks and managing most of the possession. Twenty minutes in, the hosts were rewarded when Nii intercepted a pass before playing a nice pass to newcomer Amir Makdad, who scored his first of what we hope will become many more in his career with us. 3-1 to the Bulldogs! Solid performances across the field, especially the efforts of MacGregor Caffelle, Owen Small, and Lucas Milne. On Wednesday, Berwick heads to South Hamilton to take on long-time EIL rival, Pingree.
