On Friday, 10/10, under a bright autumn sky, The Bulldogs took on the Falcons and played a competitive and physical game at Newton Country Day School. The Falcons beat the Bulldogs 2-1. Despite not earning a win, The Bulldogs should hold their heads high as they prepare to take on the next stretch of games on their schedule.
The Bulldogs battled throughout both halves of the game, never giving up or slowing down the pace. They came out strong and held their own for the duration of the match against a strong Newton team. Some examples of the Bulldogs giving it their all and working as a team: the entire Bulldog defensive force blocking attempt after attempt by the Falcons offense; every Bulldog taking control of their position and responsibilities on the field; Campbell McKee ‘28 (Brentwood, NH) taking a great shot on goal off a corner kick; Phoebe Yaris ‘29 (Raymond, NH) being versatile and playing at midfield, despite normally playing up top on offense; Carly Shumway ‘29 (Wells, ME) dribbling down the left flank, giving a good cross to Yaris who shot but the Newton keeper made a diving save.
All three of the game’s goals took place in the last 9 minutes of the match.
First, with 9 minutes and five seconds on the clock, Newton scored the first goal. Goalkeeper Julia Brennan ‘28 (Exeter, NH) then made a great diving save, holding the Falcons at bay. Not even 30 seconds later, Alexa Garcia ‘26 (Dover, NH) made a gorgeous lofted drive from the midfield; the ball went up and over the Newton keeper’s head and into the net. For a few more minutes, the game was a 1-1 tie until Newton scored in the last few minutes of the game, winning the match.
The Bulldogs are now 8-2-1 on the season and will play Pingree School next. Onward, Bulldogs!
