Berwick Musicians Work with Professional Singer-Songwriter
From September 14–23, New York City-based singer-songwriter and teaching artist Abrielle Scharff will lead a songwriting residency with the Upper School Jazz and Vocal Ensembles and the seventh- and eighth-grade Chorus and Hands-On Music classes. Abby is an award-winning songwriter and performer whose original music has received more than 100,000 streams and been featured on television.
Throughout the residency, students will explore lyric writing, melody, song structure, musical vocabulary, and arranging through free-writing exercises, creative games, guided instruction, and collaborative songwriting. Abby’s approach creates an encouraging environment in which students can experiment, take creative risks, and discover their own artistic voices. Working alongside a professional songwriter, students will experience music not only as performers, but also as creators with their own ideas and stories to share.
