Tilton pulls away late

Jack Williams scored his first career goal and Rafe Gaughan made 39 saves in the losing effort.

DOVER, NH –Berwick closed out a very tough four game stretch to open the season with a hard-fought 3-1 loss at the hands of Tilton.

Berwick got on the board first when freshman Jack Williams (Biddeford, ME) scored his first career goal. Chris Dowd (Danville, NH) made a nice individual effort near the blue line to keep the puck in and slip past a defender. Dowd moved the puck to Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) who then passed to Williams before Williams beat the goalie low on his glove-side. Tilton tied things up late in the first on a rebound goal.

Both teams were neck-and-neck through the second with Tilton hitting the post then Williams ringing one off the post on another 2v1 feed from Gaulin. It was Tilton that found the second tally with five minutes to go in the second on a crucial turnover in front of the Berwick cage.

Berwick battled deep into the third but Tilton scored on a beautiful back-door one-timer with 90 seconds remaining on the clock. It’s back to work for Berwick as they head into conference play looking to get in the W column. There is no doubt that this Berwick team is now battle-tested after this difficult opening stretch of games.
