A four goal second period helped Berwick climb out of a 3-1 deficit and proved enough for the victory.
DOVER, NH –After spotting Pingree an early 3-1 lead, Berwick scored four unanswered goals in a span of twelve minutes during the second to take control of this conference matchup.
Pingree scored a powerplay goal four minutes into the first. Eric DeGregorio (Dover, NH) for the Bulldogs on the board five minutes later on assists from Richie Rosato (Concord, NH) and Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA). Pingree netted one more powerplay goal with a minute remaining in the first.
Pingree scored once again four minutes into the second. Coming off their first win four days earlier, the Bulldogs remained poised and played their game, outshooting Pingree 25 – 6 in the second. Byron Welch (Henniker, NH) banged home a rebound on Greg Stohrer’s (Dover, NH) initial take to the net to make it a 3 – 2 game. Three minutes later, Welch moved the puck to Sidford who found Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) across the Royal Road on the powerplay. Gaulin collected the pass and rifled one home from a tough angle. Next it was a powerplay faceoff win by Jack Merecki (Stratham, NH) to Tanner Derby (Newburyport, MA) who walked the blue line and sent a slapper to the net that Sidford deflected into the Pingree cage. Finally, the eventual game winning goal was scored by Chris Dowd (Danville, NH) who took breakout feeds from Jack Williams (Biddeford, ME) and Zander Lizotte (Scarborough, ME) before zipping up the off-wing and slotting a snap shot off the far post and in.
In the third, Pingree gave it all they had and got things back to 5-4. They applied pressure in the final minute with their goalie pulled, but Rafe Gaughan (Somersworth, NH) was up to the task with a superb stop in the closing seconds to seal a second straight conference game. Ryan Gaulin earned the game puck for his relentless attack on both ends of the ice for the Bulldogs. Berwick moves to 2-4-0 on the season and takes on Exeter this Saturday night.
