Rex & Co. find their stride

DOVER, NH
-Berwick, coming off its best back-to-back efforts of the season, took another step forward tonight. The Bulldogs (4-7-1) welcomed the Bulls (9-5-1) to town and got to work early with Derek Muse (Kennebunk, ME) finding Tyler Gaulin (Kingston, NH) behind the net on the powerplay who fed Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA) just inside the right dot. Sidford waited the goalie out as he slipped across the slot and tucked one short side. It was Sidford's fourth goal in as many nights, giving him five on the season. Holderness got one back three minutes later at even strength to take the game into the break at 1-1.

Early in the second, Pete Marshall (Wolfeboro, NH) chipped the puck into the neutral zone right onto the stick of Chris Dowd (Danville, NH). Dowd streaked down the right wing, eluded a back checker as he looked to shoot, pulled the back to his backhand and sent a pass cross-crease right onto the tape of Byron Welch (Henniker, NH). Welch finished with authority and brought some life to the barn. Ten minutes later, the Rex-Welch-Dowd line was at it again in the offensive zone, this time with Welch returning the favor. The Berwick co-captain took the puck from behind Holderness' cage, moved it up to Zander Lizotte (Scarborough, ME), and Lizotte fired wide left of the Holderness net. The puck caromed off the back boards directly onto the backhand of Dowd who confidenly lifed the puck into the roof of the Holderness goal.

Despite ceding a goal early in the third, Berwick controlled much of the play in the final period, outshooting Holderness 11-8 in the last 18 minutes. Greg Stohrer (Dover, NH) almost put the game away with a powerplay wrister off the crossbar. Welch, Muse, and Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) put an exclamation mark on the night with a relentless attack in the final minute that saw Holdnerness barely have the chance to pull their goalie. Cole Hernon (Hampton, NH) and Eric DeGregorio (Dover, NH) brought a lot of life to the Berwick attack, too.

Berwick is right back to work tomorrow and plays on the road at Brewster on Friday night.
