Comeback effort falls just short

Berwick tied the game with five seconds left and their goalie pulled but surrendered a goal in sudden-death overtime

DOVER, NH
-With the goalie pulled and 20 seconds remaining, Berwick lost the draw in the offensive end but St. George's iced the puck. With 12 seconds remaining, this time the Bulldogs won the draw and Derek Muse (Kennebunk, ME) found Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) who put a shot on net that rebounded out to Pete Marshall (Wolfeboro, NH). Marshall collected the puck on his backhand and put it home to tie the game at three with five seconds remaining.

Despite outshooting St. George's 39-19, Berwick just couldn't manage to mount a significant lead at any point. Both teams traded goals through two periods with Berwick getting a powerplay goal off the stick of Greg Stohrer (Dover, NH). A Tanner Derby (Newburyport, MA) shot from the point redirected off the skate of Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA) right to Stohrer who was waiting on the back post. Later in the second, Chris Dowd (Danville, NH) worked the puck up to Zander Lizotte (Scarborough, ME) on the man-advantage who faked a shot and slid the puck down to Byron Welch (Henniker, NH) who sent a blistering one-timer past the St. George's goalie.

The overtime frame was back-and-forth with Berwick's best chance coming off the stick of Stohrer. He beat his defender wide and came in on the goalie alone, faking left then right then seemingly tucking the puck home, but it sat there right on the goal line before a St. George's defender swooped in to collect it. It was St. George's that got the final word as Max Thomson scored from the high slot with only twelve seconds remaining, bringing the pro-Berwick crowd to a hush. The Bulldogs will lick their wounds and head up to Hebron next Wednesday night.
