Berwick made its way down to Pingree on a lovely early fall day to take on league rival Pingree for the EIL opener. While the early stages saw both teams wrestling to get a grip on the match, it was Jack May who pounced upon a loose ball, swiveled nicely and smashed a shot into the opposite corner from 16 yards away. Several minutes later it was Amir Makdad who found fellow forward Lucas Milne in stride who carried the ball to his right before placing a shot just beneath the goalie's grasp. 2-0! Playing with a lead down at Pingree has been a rare experience in recent years, and so it was that Pingree took advantage of some positional miscues and cut the visitor's lead in half. With a bit of regrouping at half-tiime, the Bulldog's redoubled their efforts and put together a strong final forty minutes, marked by clever passing, iron-tight defending, comfortable goaltending, all while absorbing some physical play from the hosts. Berwick was rewarded for their efforts winning several free kicks; and it was MacGregor Caffelle who found captain Lucas Milne on one of those, banging in his second, and putting the game on ice. Special shout out to the defensive grouping of Alex Ek, MacGregor, Jack O'Brien, Owen Small, and goalie Jak Loughlin. Berwick will travel south once again this weekend for an important EIL match with Wheeler.
