Berwick falls to Portsmouth Abbey 0 - 2

C. Mansfield

10/18/08 Berwick 0 – Portsmouth Abbey School  2, played  in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

The 2 – 0 score was not a true indicator of the matchup between the Portsmouth Abbey Ravens and the Berwick Bulldogs.  Abbey’s tight passing combinations were met by Berwick’s more open flanking style of play, producing a game that saw few grade A scoring opportunities for either side.  The Ravens managed to take advantage of theirs.  The first goal came on a beautiful 35-yard direct kick from Martin Minondo in the 30th minutes, and goal number two came in the 60th minute after a Berwick defensive miscue placed the ball on the foot of Jorge Carabias.  Carabias quickly converted, drilling the ball just inside the left post.

Jordan Sanford at striker helped set the pace for Berwick, Phil Ramunno was effective in the back, and Tell White finished with 5 saves for the Bulldogs.  Owen Rischmann blocked two for the Ravens.

Berwick (4 – 6 – 1 overall, 3 – 5 – 1 EIL) next plays on Wednesday at home against the Landmark School. Portsmouth Abbey is now 5 – 2 – 2 (6 – 2 – 2).
