Berwick placed 2nd in "B" Division

The Berwick Academy Girls basketball team ended their season today with a good showing in the Eastern Independent League tournament.  Berwick was the thrid of four seeds in the B division of this tournament.  In game one, Berwick played the #2 seed Beaver Country Day from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.  Berwick won a thriller, 37-35 in overtime to advance to the Championship game.  Senior guard Kim Warnick hit a three point shot off an inbounds play with 2 seconds remaining in overtime to overcome a one point deficit and give the Lady Bulldogs the win.  Great games were also put forth by Freshman Center Juliana Blais (10 points and 15 rebounds) and Junior guard Catie Wheeler (10 points and the assist on the game winning basket). 
Berwick advanced to the Championship game, but fell to top seed Winsor 55-46.  Senior point guard Allana Sanborn of Berwick scored 19 points in her final high school game, but this effort was spoiled by senior center and league MVP Emily Wanager of Winsor who scored 31 points (including 5 three pointers).  Berwick was within two at 42-40 with 6 minutes to go, but Wanager scored 11 points in the last 6 minutes to put the game away.  Berwick ends its season at 9-12 overall.  Winsor is 17-6 and Beaver Country Day 14-10 on the season.
