Berwick Opens the Season with a Win

The Bulldogs traveled to Cushing and came away with a 2-0 win in their opening game with a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 7-1 advantage in corners.

The game opened slowly, with most of the play in midfield on the left flank.  Berwick's first good scoring opportunity came in the 20th minute off a short corner.  In the 23rd minute, Brooke Downey (Eliot, ME) found Cora Ordway (Rollinsford, NH) whose shot went just over the top right corner.  In the 28th minute, Christina Grassie (Sommersworth, NH) played a long ball to Aimee Briand (Barrington, NH) but the Cushing goalie came up with the save.  Cora Ordway had another good chance to score off a pass from Becca Siegel (York, ME) and Parker Johnson (Kittery Point, ME) but just missed the top left corner in the 33rd minute.  Berwick got on the board in the 38th minute off a corner from Erica van Dissel (South Berwick, ME) to Holly St. Jean (Merrimac, MA) whose shot found the bottom left corner of the net to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.

Cushing came out much stronger in the second half and carried the play for the opening minutes.  In the 49th minute, Aimee Briand carried the ball from half and turned the corner towards goal, but her shot went just wide.  Minutes later Aimee had another great chance to score off a pass from Caroline Hernon (Hampton, NH).  In the 58th minute, Cushing had their best chance to tie the game off a shot from the right flank, but it went just over the bar.  In the 60th minute, Brooke Downey powered down the left flank and found Georgia Barlow (South Berwick, ME) whose shot bounced off the goalie and Brooke Downey found the rebound and put it away to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.  Olivia Hurley (Newburyport, MA) had a great shot off a pass from Becca Siegel, but the keeper came up with the save.  In the 89th minute, Olivia played a great corner to Tori St. Pierre (Portsmouth, NH) who found Emma Brin (West Newbury, MA) but her shot went just over the bar.

The Bulldogs will travel to Hyde on 9/14 for a non league contest before their home opener 9/19 vs Bancroft.
