Bulldogs Lights Out

The Berwick Academy girls’ soccer team hosted league opponent Dana Hall School on Wednesday and won 2-1. After a late start and a field change, the Bulldogs scored twice in the first half thanks to mounting offensive pressure. A few minutes into the game, Caroline Hernon (Hampton, NH) dribbled down the sideline and crossed the ball to Aimee Briand (Barrington, NH) who took a hard shot. Then, Siobhan McDermott (North Andover, MA) crossed the ball to the left side of the field, targeting Liv Hurley (Newburyport, MA). Hurley beat her defender and took a convincing shot, testing a savvy Dana Hall keeper. Minutes later, Georgia Barlow streaked down the right side and into the box; she took a hard, high shot and McDermott was there to put in the rebound for Berwick’s first goal. With fourteen minutes left in the half, a corner kick by Brooke Downey (Eliot, ME) ricocheted in and around the 18-yard box, eventually being picked up by Briand. She slotted the ball to McDermott who found the net again.

Berwick continued to test the Dana Hall keeper in the second half as Briand flew down the field on a breakaway. Both teams continued to play hard as the sun set and visibility declined. With six minutes left in the game, Dana found the net with a lofty, outside shot. The Bulldog defensive line held strong, repeatedly making long clears and only allowing seven shots. Goalkeepr Torieana St. Pierre (Portsmouth, MA) made four great saves. At the other end, the Bulldog offensive tallied twelve shots and earned six corner kicks.

The Bulldogs are 7-1-0 on the season and look forward to hosting Newton Country Day School on Friday 10/4 at 4:45.
