  • Lead Kindergarten Teacher

    Berwick Academy, a PK-PG coeducational day school located in southern Maine seeks a Lead Kindergarten Teacher to join its Lower School. Berwick’s Kindergarten program is based on the whole child philosophy of creating a respectful and responsible learning community through exploration and discovery, involving meaningful social-emotional interactions, core academic readiness experiences and meaningful connections with a blend of special subjects.  Central to the typical Kindergarten classroom experience is project-based learning and collaborative team-teaching with the assistant kindergarten teacher. Qualified candidates will have a passion for and experiences with Early Childhood Education, an eagerness to be part of a team-teaching experience, the ability to foster positive relationships with students and their families, and an interest in collaborating with Lower School through Upper School colleagues. Strong communication and writing skills are also qualities of a successful candidate.  This position begins in the 2018-2019 academic year, though significant summer preparation will be a necessary component of school-year readiness.

  • School Custodian

    Berwick Academy, a PK-12 grade day school is South Berwick, Maine, seeks a full time responsible school custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. The ideal candidate will be experienced in this role focused on building up keep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large and vast campus. A keen eye for detailing and diligence are also imperative in this custodial maintenance position.
    Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to the assurance that all academic and administrative spaces on campus are ready for the next academic day by mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming as well as the removal of trash and recycling in all areas on campus. Other tasks include washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, and showers in our many locker rooms/restrooms and training facilities. These duties will involve restocking disposables (i.e. paper products and sanitizers/soaps) and wiping down interior and exterior glass/mirrors.  Working knowledge of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances are also a must. These pieces of equipment and tools include vacuums, brooms, mops, extractors, high speed buffers, and auto scrubbers used for stripping, cleaning, buffing, and applying floor finishes to hard surface floors as well as shampooing carpets. The role of this individual will extend into assisting with facility related setups that include meetings, classrooms, conferences, events etc., as well as occasionally assisting in snow removal operations from sidewalks, lifting heavy items, and moving tables and chairs. This may require the flexibility/ability to work some weekends.

    An important part of this role will also include securing the facilities after operating hours by locking doors and closing window in assigned buildings. This includes reporting unauthorized occupants. As an employee of the school there is the expectation that the individual will enforce and support the policies established by Berwick Academy and its facilities department.

    Berwick Academy is located approximately one hour north of Boston in the beautiful seacoast area of southern maine and southern New Hampshire. The Berwick campus spans roughly 80 acres and includes 10 academic buildings, 2 administrative as well as 5 residential structures. Our student body commute from 68 communities that include the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

  • Teaching Apprentices

    Berwick Academy's Teaching Apprentice Program (TAP) offers a purposeful blend of hands-on teaching experiences and graduate courses, resulting in a M.Ed. from Lesley University. Each TA works full time under the guidance of experienced Berwick mentors for an entire academic year while taking Lesley courses. Our apprentices develop the knowledge and skills essential for successful teaching while earning legitimate work experience at one of New England’s finest independent schools. The program will begin in June, and is open to aspiring educators.

    Placement options:
    • Lower School (Prek - Grade 4) - Self contained classrooms
    • Middle School (Grades 5 - 8)  - Sections in Humanities, Math, English, History, Science, Art, Spanish
    • Upper School (Grades 9 - 12) - Sections in  Math, English, History, Science, Art, Spanish, Latin
    The Berwick Academy / Lesley University collaborative program is designed for highly motivated, intellectually curious adults who want to participate in a comprehensive and enriching teacher residency program. We encourage people of varying ages, experiences, and backgrounds to apply.
